We watched that one soon after it was released on DVD - my wife and I enjoyed it, although we did enjoy the Director's version (alt. ending) better than the theatrical.
It may have been a bit slow at times, the story maybe a bit formulated but overall was a very enjoyable movie. The simply but yet clever plot was brilliant and it does make you think a bit.

Nah, I liked the theatrical ending better. I guess I usually like which ever ending I see first. I hate alternate endings!
I really liked this movie too. I never heard of it when my wifey rented it. It wasn't predictable and I'm pretty good at guessing plot lines.
The..um...shall we say "exit" stategy was scary, bizzare and quite funny at the same time.

Instead of the mother fighting the "alien" and retaining the memories of her son, with the "alien" being sucked out back to the mothership
She wasn't able to fight it, and the memories were taken from her, but afterwards when the "alien" went away with his gloating attitude of "no one can win against us", she had a memory still there that reminded her of her child. They weren't able to take it all away like they thought.
I can't rememebr though if at the end of it she was actually reunited with her son......
I didn't like the alt ending scene with her trying to get to her son in that alt dimension room. I prefer not knowing if her son was alive or not at that point in the story.
I didn't particularly care for either ending... but in general I like the alternate endings because they are usually what the director intended... before Hollywood says it's not happy enough for the simpletons and it gets changed to appease the masses.
